MP3 Music Streaming Services
Yes, we’re a CD ripping service, but we get asked related questions and a topic that’s come up recently is the subject of accessing music on the move.
One option is to access music via a web browser. Forget your iPod and the need to keep the batteries charged this is a way to get music when you only have access to the internet. There are two I’m familiar with. Both have free options supported by advertising, all are Windows and Mac independent.
The better known is Spotify. Bit of a cheat (by me) in that you need to download some software but that’s easy once you’ve logged on. You get an application that looks like a cross between iTunes and Explorer. You can search for music, create playlists and buy tracks should you wish.
Grooveshark just lives in your browser, looking much more Explorer than iTunes but supports pretty much the same functionality. But ....
Grooveshark has a button allowing you to upload your music, and if you dig around in the help section you see that all the music has been provided by users who have uploaded their own MP3 music libraries. Maybe this heralds a new direction for streaming music services, the option to have your tracks saved safely for you in a professionally managed storage facility.
Of course we think music CD ripping is the best approach to freeing up your music, but streaming services also have a big role to play. Just wait for Apple to join the scene.
